Job summary

Celnor Group in Portsmouth, VA seeks a Senior Geotechnical Engineer (PE) to provide technical leadership across geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing projects.

The role offers ownership of major assignments, client development and team growth, with responsibilities including leading exploration programs, reviewing reports and mentoring staff. Virginia PE licensure preferred; seven years of experience is required.

Qualifications

• Seven years of progressively responsible geotechnical experience.
• PE license required or Virginia licensure preferred.
• Experience managing budgets, schedules, staffing and client expectations.
• Strong knowledge of bearing capacity, settlement, foundations and subsurface characterization.

Responsibilities

• Lead multiple geotechnical projects from proposal to final delivery, managing scope, budgets, schedules, staffing and technical quality.
• Direct subsurface exploration programmes (SPT borings, CPT, test pits) and oversee field teams.
• Prepare, review and approve geotechnical reports, calculations and construction recommendations.
• Mentor junior engineers, technicians, inspectors and laboratory staff.
• Oversee quality-control processes, field reports and laboratory results for accuracy and traceability.
• Develop proposals, scopes, fee estimates and staffing plans to support client development.
