Job summary

Exponent is seeking a Senior Geologist for its Civil & Structural Engineering practice across multiple US locations, including New York. The role focuses on engineering geology, remote sensing, GIS, mapping, and geophysics to investigate failures in geotechnical systems and assess natural hazards.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, lead field investigations, manage client relationships, and contribute to project deliverables through analysis, reporting, and presentations.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in geological sciences with Engineering Geology specialization and 5+ years post-graduate experience.
• MS in Geological Sciences with Engineering Geology specialization and 10+ years post-graduate experience.
• Licensure as a professional Geologist (PG) or Geophysicist (PGP) in at least one state is required.
• Certification as Engineering Geologist (CEG) or Hydrogeologist (CHG) in at least one state or ability to obtain within 2 years.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Demonstrated success in independently developing and managing client relationships.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
• Proven leadership and strong written/verbal communication skills.
• Strong publication record or active involvement in professional societies.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections and subsurface explorations.
• Evaluate and characterize site conditions for root cause analyses and design.
• Create geospatial models including GIS and subsurface models.
• Create topographic and thematic maps.
• Engage with clients on project strategy and deliverables.
• Perform peer review of geologic and geotechnical documents.
• Evaluate construction claims.
• Lead project teams in field investigations and analyses.
• Develop projects with new and existing clients.
