Job summary

Bain & Company seeks a Lead AI Engineer to design, build, and ship generative AI systems for clients, collaborating across engineering, product, and data science teams in a hands-on role with growing leadership opportunities.

The role requires a minimum of three days per week in person, at client sites or Bain offices, with travel as needed, and offers learning, mentorship, and a path to technical leadership.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years in software/ML engineering or applied AI roles with hands-on building responsibilities.
• Experience shipping generative AI features end-to-end from prototyping to production.
• Clear communication to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborative across engineering, product and data science teams; mentoring is a plus.
• Strong prompt and context engineering skills; familiarity with design principles.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to end‑to‑end generative AI systems, multi‑agent workflows and production apps.
• Build multi‑component AI pipelines with RAG, fine‑tuning, embeddings, and hybrid retrieval.
• Implement reasoning, tool use, function calling, and orchestration across workflows.
• Develop agentic systems with memory management and tool integration.
• Contribute across model experimentation, evaluation design, and deployment.
• Build APIs, microservices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud‑native deployments.
• Support GenAIOps processes for automated testing, latency monitoring, and improvement.
