Job summary

Aston Carter is seeking a hands-on Controller for a Boston-based private equity firm. The role reports directly to the CFO and involves all aspects of fund and management company accounting, compliance, and operations.

Responsibilities include overseeing investor and portfolio company reporting, cap calls, distributions, and side letter management, as well as audits, tax, and SEC compliance. The ideal candidate has 8–15+ years of experience, a CPA is preferred, and a meticulous, independent work

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
• CPA preferred.
• 8–15+ years of experience, mix of public accounting and related private equity/venture capital/private credit.
• Attention to detail, independent worker with strong communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience with fund and management company accounting and investor reporting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee fund and management company accounting, investor and portfolio reporting, cap calls, distributions, LP requests and side letter management.
• Calculate expense allocations, portfolio company billbacks, operating partner tracking and reporting.
• Oversee fund audit and tax.
• Assist CFO with special projects (fund/GP lines of credit, transition to fund admin, new tax provider).
• Assist with SEC compliance, documentation, pre-approval system and exam preparation.
• Handle firm operational items including website and coordination with outsourced IT.
