Job summary

American Battery Solutions Inc. in Lake Orion, MI is seeking a Senior Functional Safety Engineer to own ISO 26262 safety work products and lead safety activities across the product development lifecycle for high-voltage battery systems.

The role collaborates with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, suppliers, and customers to ensure Functional Safety requirements are defined, implemented, verified, and maintained throughout development.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field required.
Master's degree preferred in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
Minimum of seven (7) years of engineering experience in automotive or heavy-duty electrical systems.
Minimum of five (5) years of Functional Safety experience applying ISO 26262 on production programs.
Expert knowledge of ISO 26262 and automotive electrical architectures.
Experience developing Functional Safety work products (HARA, FSC, TSC, FTA, FMEDA).
Working knowledge of Medini Analyze, JAMA, Enterprise Architect, MATLAB/Simulink.
Experience with safety-critical Battery Management Systems is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Serve as the technical owner for Functional Safety work products throughout the product development life cycle.
Lead ISO 26262 safety activities from concept through production.
Develop and maintain Functional Safety deliverables (HARA, ASIL classifications, FSC, TSC).
Allocate Functional Safety Requirements into the system architecture with traceability.
Perform and document Functional Safety analyses (SPFM, LFM, PMHF, diagnostic coverage).
Develop safety verification/validation strategies and review objective evidence.
Generate and maintain technical evidence for FS assessments and audits.
Support safe Battery Management System architectures and safety-related hardware designs.
Lead resolution of FS issues and analyze change impact on safety design.
Align FS activities with DFMEA, FMEDA, and FTA analyses.
Collaborate with FS Managers, engineering teams, customers, and suppliers to ensure compliance with processes.
Maintain FS documentation in Jama, Medini Analyze, or equivalent tools.
Provide guidance, mentoring, and training to engineering teams and foster continuous FS process improvement.
Stay current with ISO 26262 and automotive safety practices.
