Job summary

BWI Group seeks a Functional Safety Engineer Lead to own ISO 26262 compliance for brake and chassis control systems at our North American technical center. This senior individual contributor role focuses on defining safety concepts, coordinating analyses, and delivering safety artifacts to OEM customers.

You will guide multi-disciplinary teams, ensure independence in assessments, and drive safety arguments from concept through software release and customer delivery.

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Automotive, Electrical, Software, or Mechanical Engineering.
• Hands-on ISO 26262 experience spanning concept through software release phases.
• Experience authoring, maintaining Safety Management Plans across project phases.
• Ability to lead HARA, FSC, and TSC definition and sign-off authority.
• Experience coordinating Tier 2 supplier safety compliance and integrating outputs.

Responsibilities

• Own and drive ISO 26262 compliance across full development lifecycle for brake and chassis control systems.
• Lead definition of item, hazard and risk assessment (HARA) and safety concepts (FSC/TSC).
• Define safety measures and support implementation in production and system design.
• Coordinate safety analyses (HARA, D-FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, DFA) across disciplines.
• Execute confirmation measures: reviews, audits, assessments; ensure independence when required.
• Author and own the safety case and safety argumentation for software release.
• Deliver all customer-facing safety artifacts (RAM reports, safety case, safety plan, DIA).
• Coordinate with Tier 2 suppliers to ensure compliance and integrate outputs into arguments.
• Guide cross-functional teams without direct management authority to uphold safety quality.
