Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Lead Full Stack Engineer to own the NBA platform’s orchestration and state machine, built in Node.js/TypeScript on Temporal.

You will lead a small team, write code, and ensure durable workflow execution, reliable action delivery, and observability across member journeys. The role requires hands-on backend development, strong distributed systems fundamentals, and experience with Kafka and cloud-native deployments (Azure, Kubernetes, CI/CD).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or relevant area.
• 6+ years of full stack software engineering experience, with 1–2 years in a tech-lead role.
• Strong Node.js/TypeScript backend experience building production services.
• Hands-on experience with workflow orchestration platforms, Temporal preferred.
• Strong distributed systems fundamentals (event-driven, retries, idempotency).
• Experience designing Kafka producer/consumer patterns in production environments.

Responsibilities

• Pod delivery — end-to-end delivery for orchestration pod.
• Workflow orchestration — build durable, long-running workflows on Temporal (Node.js/TypeScript).
• Action delivery architecture — end-to-end delivery from decision publication through activation and delivery receipt processing.
• Activation integrations — activate decisions to Adobe Experience Platform and publish via Kafka.
• Hands-on development — contribute Temporal workflows, Node.js services, Kafka producers/consumers.
• Technical decisions — make day-to-day architecture choices for the pod.
• Distributed systems reliability — ensure exactly-once semantics and durable state.
• Observability and operations — monitoring, tracing, alerting across workflows and delivery pipelines.
• Team leadership — mentor engineers and contractors; code reviews and standards.
• Cross-team coordination — surface dependencies and risks with stakeholders.
