Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Lead Full Stack Engineer to own the NBA platform's orchestration and state machine, building in Node.js/TypeScript on Temporal. You will lead a small team, write code, and be accountable for durability and timing of action delivery across the member journey.

Remote/Hybrid — preferably Boston, MA, with occasional travel to Humana offices. 40 hours/week; pay range $129,300–$177,800 per year; bonus eligible.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science or relevant area.
6+ years of full stack software engineering experience, with 1–2 years in a tech-lead or senior-lead capacity.
Strong Node.js/TypeScript backend experience building production services.
Hands-on experience with workflow orchestration platforms, Temporal preferred.
Strong distributed systems fundamentals (event-driven, retries, idempotency).
Experience designing Kafka producer/consumer patterns in production.
Experience with Transactional Outbox or similar patterns for durable delivery.
Ability to lead a small pod and communicate architecture to stakeholders.
Cloud-native operating experience on Azure with Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

Own end-to-end delivery for the orchestration pod, including planning, execution, quality, and on-time shipping.
Design and build durable, long-running Temporal workflows in Node.js/TypeScript that model the member action lifecycle.
Own end-to-end action delivery from decision publication through activation and receipt processing, including idempotency and dead-letter handling.
Own components that activate decisions to Adobe Experience Platform and publish through Kafka patterns to downstream channels.
Contribute code alongside the team (Temporal workflows, Node.js services, Kafka producers/consumers, and integration services).
Make day-to-day architecture decisions for the pod (workflow design, state machine, retries, schema evolution, API contracts).
Engineer for reliability in a highly asynchronous environment with exactly-once semantics and durable state management.
Establish observability, monitoring, tracing, alerting across workflow execution and delivery pipelines.
Mentor engineers and contractors, perform code reviews, and surface risks early.
Coordinate with decisioning, the Action Library, activation systems, and the platform team.
