Job summary

Formulary Financial in New York City is seeking an experienced, senior engineer to own end-to-end verticals from data model to UI and deployment across a platform managing billions in assets. You will drive real-time calculations, lineage, AI-enabled workflows, and reliable, scalable infrastructure.

You will work across the stack with TypeScript, React, GraphQL, gRPC, and cloud technologies on AWS, delivering precise financial data, secure authorizations, and intuitive client-facing experiences.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands-on engineering, comfortable working across the stack.
• Strong TypeScript. We're React on the front, GraphQL and gRPC services behind it.
• You care about correctness. Experience with systems where the numbers have to be right — payments, billing, ledgers, or anything similar — is a big plus.
• You're comfortable with complex data: hierarchies, versioned history, reconciliation. Our data is hard because of its structure, not its size.
• You understand the fundamentals of reliable distributed systems — idempotency, retries — and want to get better at them.
• You use AI tools in your daily work and are excited to build LLM-powered features.
• Experience deploying and operating services on AWS (Kubernetes a plus).
• Solid testing and CI/CD habits.

Responsibilities

• Real-time calculation engine: allocations, NAV, and capital accounts computed on the fly with cent-level accuracy.
• Lineage on every figure: every number traces back to its exact source and shows formulas.
• Orchestrating AI, humans, and determinism with durable workflows.
• Money movement: bank connections, payment rails, and reconciliation workflows; settlements tie to real activity.
• Automated audit: data-quality layer checking for misattributed entries and drifted balances.
• Ontology metamodel: a single semantic model driving platform types and rules.
• Authorization as a graph: live queries over fund hierarchy for access control.
• Client-facing surfaces: web, mobile, and Excel experiences for admins, GPs, and LPs.
