Job summary

AppFolio is hiring a Full Stack Senior Software Engineer to join the Mixed Portfolio Foundation team. The role focuses on owning foundational architecture and data models across affordable housing, student housing, and other segments, enabling scalable SaaS solutions.

This engineering-driven team values autonomy, technical excellence, and collaboration as you help drive new capabilities and strengthen existing platforms for multiple property types and business units.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience developing web-based applications, preferably in a SaaS environment.
• Extensive experience designing complex data models that fit into business and compliance requirements.
• Extensive experience developing web applications, preferably in an agile SaaS environment.
• Architectural improvements to enhance scalability, flexibility, or performance.
• Experience across all levels of the development stack.
• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, React, MySQL, AWS, SOA.
• Familiarity with Agile processes: Scrum or Kanban.
• Familiarity with Test-Driven Development.

Responsibilities

• Build a deep understanding of mixed portfolio segments, owning the foundations for affordable and student housing.
• Maintain ongoing business segments including Community Association, Commercial, NYC, and more.
• Develop scalable, robust web-based solutions, refactoring or starting from scratch when needed.
• Mentor and guide other software engineers.
• Implement new features and optimize for maximum performance.
• Collaborate with QA, product owners, and designers in a high-performing team.
• Adopt engineering best practices, provide code reviews, and advocate for technical excellence.
• Prioritize quality with test coverage and quick resolution of escalations.
