Job summary

KLA is seeking an experienced FPGA engineer in Milpitas to define firmware requirements and deliver production-grade FPGA designs for embedded sensing and communication systems. You will work with hardware and software teams to ensure timing goals and high-performance operation.

The role emphasizes hands-on FPGA design, verification with Vivado/ModelSim, and collaboration across ME, OE, SW, and Systems groups to achieve robust semiconductor inspection solutions.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with complex FPGA firmware designs.
• Experience with Xilinx FPGAs (preferred) or Intel/Altera FPGAs.
• Proficiency with FPGA simulation tools such as Vivado, ModelSim, or equivalent.
• Proficiency with FPGA design tools such as Vivado or equivalent.
• Proficiency in Verilog or SystemVerilog.
• Strong timing analysis and issue resolution skills.
• Lab equipment such as logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
• Knowledge of PCIe, Aurora, DDR4, 10GbE, SPI, I²C interfaces.
• Embedded Linux build systems experience.
• Excellent communication and teamwork in a engineering environment.

Responsibilities

• Define FPGA firmware requirements and specs from concept to production release.
• Design, implement, and debug FPGA firmware for embedded sensing and communication systems.
• Create testbenches for simulation, perform timing analysis and closure, verify FPGA functionality.
• Collaborate with hardware and embedded software engineers on high-performance mixed-signal systems.
• Gather project specs and performance requirements at board and system levels; meet schedules.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation to quality standards.
