Job summary

American Axle & Mfg., Inc. in Detroit seeks a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead forging process improvements, equipment selections, and new product launches across global plants.

You will analyze metal flow, tool design, and sequence of operations to drive robust manufacturing solutions. You will run simulations, develop tooling, and partner with maintenance, quality, and suppliers to maximize OEE and product quality while delivering costed capital proposals and ensuring policy compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering / engineering technology or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years manufacturing/engineering experience, preferably in forge operations.
• Strong CAD modeling and drafting skills (NX).
• Ability to read, interpret and create mechanical drawings.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%–50%, including international.

Responsibilities

• Identify issues and improvements to processes, equipment, and tooling.
• Follow engineering systems, process control and change management policies.
• Collaborate with plant engineers, operators, tool rooms, suppliers, quality and maintenance to improve OEE and product quality.
• Run forging simulations using Deform software and interpret results for robust sequences and tool designs.
• Complete detailed tool designs for hot, warm, and cold forging processes.
• Develop manufacturing equipment purchase proposals with detailed requirements and supplier evaluation.
• Support manufacturing cost projections by analyzing design, complexity, and overall process with investments and savings.
• Maintain process integrity by updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines.
• Contribute to engineering success by embracing diverse requests and helping others achieve results.
