Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to lead the launch, commissioning, and ramp-up of new equipment across supplier sites globally. You will provide manufacturability input from concept through design release, partnering with suppliers to incorporate external feedback and constraints.

The role requires 10+ years in manufacturing engineering for complex roll-formed steel components, strong DFM/DFMA experience, and global travel up to 75% as needed. Hybrid work in Detroit, MI is offered.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's in an engineering discipline and 10+ years in manufacturing engineering for complex roll-formed steel components.
• Experience in design for manufacturing and steel processes or machinery.
• 5+ years serving large OEMs in renewables, automotive, electronics, or industrial manufacturing.
• Proven influence of DFM/DFMA on design releases and factory validation.
• Strong experience with roll forming complex steel shapes and fabrication processes.
• Experience leading supplier-facing engineering activities including process readiness and validation builds.
• Experience with engineering change management in a PLM system.
• CAD collaboration for manufacturability reviews and interpreting drawings.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma and structured problem solving.
• Ability to accommodate flexible schedules for global teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead launch, commissioning, and ramp-up of new equipment with suppliers domestically and internationally.
• Review drawings and specs to identify manufacturability risks and propose solutions.
• Drive innovations in manufacturing technologies for steel roll forming and related processes.
• Plan prototype builds, supplier trials, and on-site validations.
• Lead cost-reduction initiatives while maintaining quality and reliability.
• Define and validate manufacturing readiness deliverables and risk assessments.
• Conduct supplier factory readiness audits and drive corrective actions.
• Deploy manufacturing technologies and best practices across suppliers.
• Define tooling requirements and support FAT/SAT, installation, and training.
• Approve engineering changes in PLM and ensure controlled implementation.
• Provide rapid escalation support and root-cause problem solving.
• Document best practices and deploy standardized solutions.
