Job summary

CGS is seeking a Senior FOIA Paralegal to join our legal team and support a large federal agency’s FOIA and litigation needs. This role emphasizes legal review, document processing, and skilled use of eDiscovery tools.

The position offers opportunities to perform searches, redact and code documents, conduct research, and draft legal materials while collaborating in a fast-paced government-facing environment.

Qualifications

• Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study.
• At least one year of litigation paralegal experience is required; trial experience is very helpful.
• Experience with Nuix Investigate, Relativity, and/or other eDiscovery and document review tools strongly desired.
• Experience processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of FOIA rules and regulations; applying exemptions.
• Must have basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and memoranda, and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
• Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, knowledge of word processing, databases, spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.

Responsibilities

• Conduct searches and analyze result sets to separate non-responsive documents from responsive documents and screen for privilege or FOIA exemptions.
• Redact and code responsive documents.
• Perform legal research.
• Draft legal documents.
