City of Durham is seeking a senior lead in the Stormwater Infrastructure Group within the Engineering and Stormwater Division to oversee the Drainage & Floodplain Unit. Responsibilities include floodplain management, grants, and contract oversight.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, 5+ years in engineering or floodplain work, and a NC driver’s license. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential, with ArcGIS and Cityworks experience bonus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, earth science, or a related field.
• Five years of related engineering, project management, and/or floodplain management experience.
• Valid North Carolina Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record or acquired within 60 days of hire.

Responsabilités

• Oversee floodplain management activities and grant administration for the Drainage & Floodplain Unit.
• Manage contracts, professional services, and construction projects with a focus on responsiveness and quality.
• Coordinate with state and federal agencies on floodplain mapping (FIRM revisions) and maintain accurate GIS content.
• Lead City-County flood programs (NFIP, HMGP, CRS) and advance flood resiliency across all phases.
• Represent the City at Emergency Management and other committees; provide technical assistance as needed.
• Attend meetings and provide administrative, technical, and contract support.
