Job summary

Capella Space, now part of IonQ's space business, is seeking a Flight Software Engineer to write software for our satellite fleet in orbit. You will collaborate with EE, FPGA, and ground software engineers to design, build, and evolve flight code for a growing constellation.

You bring 5+ years of hands-on experience with real-time embedded systems, C/C++, Python, and embedded Linux, and you will shape the team's engineering roadmap while ensuring safety-critical reliability in live operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/CE/EE or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience.
• Experience with real-time embedded systems (bare-metal or RTOS).
• Familiarity with embedded Linux and Linux kernel modules.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and Python.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain flight software for a growing satellite constellation.
• Collaborate with EE, FPGA, and ground software engineers for integration.
• Lead code reviews and mentor teammates.
• Write and maintain unit and integration tests.
• Develop software documentation and cross-train team members.
• Troubleshoot and resolve software issues, including live on-orbit operations.
• Participate in the software development life cycle from requirements to deployment.
• Support integration and operations teams with software queries.
