Job summary

Archer, an aerospace company in San Jose, California, is seeking a Staff Flight Sciences Software and HPC Engineer to design and maintain internal software and HPC infrastructure for engineers across Flight Sciences. You will enable reproducible computations, drive scalable tooling, and promote software excellence in a fast-moving environment.

The role requires advanced degrees and 5+ years in scientific software, strong Python ecosystem experience, and HPC design/management expertise, including

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in aerospace, mechanical, computational engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience as user and developer of scientific/engineering software in flight sciences or similar.
• Proficiency in the scientific Python ecosystem (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch, VTK).
• Experience with software development best practices including version control, CI/CD, testing, environment management.
• Experience with designing/administering HPC systems on-premise or cloud (AWS).
• Knowledge of Linux, high-speed networking, parallel file systems, MPI.
• Experience with HPC management software (Slurm/PBS/Torque, OpenHPC/Bright, Warewulf/XCat, Spack/EasyBuild, Lmod).
• Understanding enterprise IT and network security practices.
• Excellent problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain internal software libraries and applications to enable engineers to solve problems faster.
• Develop tools to improve reproducibility and traceability of computations.
• Promote software excellence across the engineering organization.
• Evaluate HPC resources needs and optimize infrastructure solutions for cost efficiency.
• Maintain and administer on-premises HPC resources.
• Advocate for engineering computing needs with IT.
