Job summary

Leidos is seeking a senior aerospace engineer in the Flight Systems Department in Huntsville, AL. You will develop and validate complex flight systems, including 6-DOF/HWIL simulations and GNC integration, collaborating across aerodynamics, propulsion, and software teams.

You will lead a small M&S team, perform advanced analyses, support live flight tests, and contribute to rapid development programs for missiles and munitions. U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain Secret clearance are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field from an ABET accredited school with 8+ years of experience or a Master’s Degree with 6+ years of experience.
• Candidate must be a US citizen and possess (or be able to obtain) a Secret Clearance.
• Resident of North Alabama area or willing to relocate to work on-site at the Huntsville, AL office.
• Programming experience in Matlab/Simulink, C/C++, Python or similar.
• Strong technical communication skills and ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain 6-DOF, 3-DOF, and HWIL simulations with aerodynamic/propulsion models and GNC algorithms.
• Analyze flight vehicle dynamics, perform Monte Carlo analyses and trajectory optimization as needed.
• Provide accurate assessments to managers and stakeholders to support decisions.
• Lead a small team of M&S engineers, assign tasks and review outputs.
• Collaborate with aerodynamics, propulsion, mechanical design, avionics and software teams.
• Support live flight-test events including planning, telemetry collection and post-flight analysis.
• Develop, upgrade, or use scripts and GUIs to support analysis and programmatic efforts.
