Job summary

Frontline Source Group in Garland, Texas seeks a Senior Firmware Engineer to modernize an embedded firmware platform for connected water-management products. Hybrid or in-office schedule with potential flexibility ensures collaboration with hardware and software teams.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in firmware development, strong C/C++, and experience with ARM Cortex-M and RTOS like FreeRTOS or Zephyr. You will drive architecture, reliability, and maintainability across multiple hardware

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related discipline preferred.
5+ years of software development experience.
3+ years of hands on embedded firmware development experience.
Strong programming experience with C and/or C++.
Experience developing production firmware for resource constrained embedded devices.
Experience with ARM Cortex M or comparable microcontrollers.
Knowledge of real time operating systems, preferably FreeRTOS or Zephyr.
Experience with embedded communication protocols including I2C, SPI, and UART.
Experience integrating firmware with hardware components and electronic systems.
Ability to read electrical schematics and component datasheets.
Hands on debugging experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or comparable equipment.
Experience with wireless connectivity technologies.
Understanding of OTA firmware update mechanisms.
Experience using AI tools specifically to assist with firmware code development.
Experience improving or rearchitecting existing firmware platforms strongly preferred.
Experience developing hardware abstraction layers strongly preferred.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Responsibilities

Lead modernization and rearchitecture of an embedded firmware platform.
Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware using C and/or C++.
Improve firmware modularity, scalability, maintainability, and separation of concerns.
Develop and enhance hardware abstraction layers for multiple configurations.
Design, implement, and improve OTA firmware update capabilities.
Develop firmware for resource constrained embedded systems and microcontrollers.
Work with RTOS such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr.
Support wireless connectivity including WiFi, Bluetooth Low Energy, and cellular.
Develop and troubleshoot interfaces including I2C, SPI, UART.
Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate firmware with components.
Read schematics, interpret datasheets, troubleshoot firmware/hardware interactions.
Hands-on debugging with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related tools.
Utilize AI-assisted development tools in firmware code context.
Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and planning.
Collaborate with software, hardware, product, and quality teams to deliver embedded solutions.
Contribute to engineering standards, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
