Job summary

Racedog Technologies in Raleigh/Durham/Cary, NC seeks a Senior Firmware Engineer with 12+ years in embedded systems to design, develop, and optimize firmware for advanced hardware. Lead driver development, RTOS configuration, and secure boot/OTA mechanisms in a collaborative hardware-to-cloud environment.

You will work onsite with hybrid options, interfacing with hardware, validation teams, and cloud developers to ensure robust, secure firmware across multisite projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, with extensive embedded firmware development.
• Expert-level proficiency in C and C++ for resource-constrained embedded systems.
• Hands-on experience with RTOS such as FreeRTOS, ThreadX, or Zephyr.
• Experience developing device drivers for SPI, I2C, UART, USB, Ethernet, and CAN.
• Strong debugging and hardware lab capabilities with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers.
• Eligibility to work in the United States and onsite/hybrid work in the Raleigh/Durham/Cary, NC region.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and optimize production-grade embedded firmware for microcontrollers and IoT hardware.
• Perform board bring-up and hardware-software integration, including low-level driver development.
• Configure RTOS schedulers or bare-metal environments for deterministic timing.
• Implement secure boot architectures and OTA firmware update pipelines.
• Debug complex firmware issues using lab instruments like oscilloscopes and JTAG debuggers.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers on schematic reviews, pinmux, and board layouts.
• Develop automated unit tests and HIL test scripts; maintain technical docs.
• Ensure adherence to coding standards, memory limits, and power constraints.
