Job summary

Axon seeks an experienced Platform Firmware engineer to design AIoT firmware for a range of devices, including SoC/SoM and MCUs. You will implement firmware for eLinux/eAndroid, Wi‑Fi, cellular technologies, and power management while collaborating with SoC vendors and distributed teams.

Experience with embedded Linux, AOSP, RTOS, and AI-assisted development is essential. The role emphasizes safety, performance, and strong communication in a fast‑paced environment.

Qualifications

• 8–14 years of real‑world firmware or embedded experience developing on IoT products.
• Experience programming with C, C++, Rust, Golang and/or Python.
• Experience with Kernel and User‑space Embedded Linux with exposure to Yocto, OpenWRT or other Embedded Distros for BSP.
• Experience with Embedded Android Kernel and User‑space (AOSP).
• Experience with RTOS on Microcontrollers.
• Basic ability to read Datasheets and Schematics.
• Experience with concise Technical Writing and Architecture Diagramming.
• Hands‑on experience using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor or similar) in a real codebase, with a clear point of view on where they help and where they fail in embedded or systems work.
• Strong understanding of Computer Architecture and Peripherals.
• Strong understanding of Operating Systems, Concurrency and Networking concepts.
• Strong understanding of Data Structures, Algorithms and Object Oriented Design Patterns.
• Experience with Cellular LTE, 5G Modems is a strong plus.
• Experience with Battery and Power Management sub‑systems, Safety and Thermal, is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Firmware Design and Development of AIoT infrastructure for a variety of new programs.
• Develop Firmware for eLinux or eAndroid‑based SoC/SoM.
• Develop Firmware for Microcontrollers.
• Develop Firmware for Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth BLE, Sub‑Ghz, Cellular LTE & 5G, and related RF technologies.
• Develop Firmware for Battery and Power Management subsystems with Safety and Thermal focus.
• Develop Manufacturing Software Provisioning and Calibration Tooling.
• Develop Unit, Integration and Automated Tests and ATS coverage.
• Support Electrical Engineering with Board Bring‑up and Hardware Debugging.
• Write and review Design Docs, Pull Requests, and contribute to documentation.
• Collaborate with distributed teams (SoC, Embedded, Electrical, Manufacturing, Compliance).
• Collaborate with SoC and Cellular Modem vendors to optimize AIoT use-cases.
• Drive Engineering Excellence with test‑first mindset.
• Help define AI coding tool adoption for embedded firmware and pair‑programming.
• Mentor engineers on AI‑assisted development while maintaining safety.
• Be a Team Player and strong communicator, ready to support the Team.
