Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to design fire protection systems, lead life-safety analyses and ensure code compliance across federal and commercial projects. The role supports a hybrid work environment with opportunities to collaborate on diverse infrastructure and environmental projects.

You will mentor junior staff, engage with clients, and contribute to proposals while balancing design excellence with compliance requirements. Domestic and international travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 7 years of related experience.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

Responsibilities

• Develop fire protection engineering designs including layouts, basis-of-design docs, hydraulic analyses and detailed plans for sprinklers, suppression, pumps and alarms.
• Act as QFPE for federal projects, providing life safety and fire protection analyses.
• Review designs for compliance with NFPA, UFC, and local regulations and sign off on completed designs.
• Collaborate with sales to prepare proposals and respond to client RFPs.
• Meet with clients to review current and future design needs and conduct site assessments as required.
• Provide guidance and training to junior staff and supervise engineers on projects.
