Job summary

Fluence is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to support fire safety across product development, testing, certification, and compliance for Battery Energy Storage System solutions.

You will analyze fire risks, develop protective designs, and ensure adherence to global fire protection standards while collaborating with Product Management, Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Safety, and Permitting teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent engineering experience.
• 10–15 years of demonstrated experience in fire protection engineering or related fields.
• Strong experience in fire protection design, Fire code compliance document development, CFD fire modeling and fire protection permitting.
• Proven ability to work independently on complex engineering projects with minimal guidance.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal teams to understand fire code requirements and translate them into compliant product designs or permitting solutions.
• Apply fire protection engineering expertise to diagnose issues, evaluate risks, and develop solutions for complex technical challenges.
• Design and implement code compliance matrices to extract fire code requirements and ensure proper design responses.
• Identify and address code deficiencies and local jurisdiction requirements for project deployments.
• Support and deliver training programs on fire protection to internal teams and stakeholders.
• Participate in issue management to improve communication, root cause analysis and solution execution.
• Stay current on industry code changes, emerging technologies, and trends to enhance fire safety practices.
• Assist Sales and Permitting teams with technical expertise, including permitting reviews and code negotiations.
• Contribute to testing programs and international certification efforts in fire protection.
