The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of Fire Safety, has a full-time vacancy for a Fire Investigator in Concord, NH. This position is 40 hours per week, non-exempt, and pays $31.03/hour to $41.77/hour.

Responsibilities include investigating fire origins and causes, conducting inspections, and assisting other agencies. Requires an associate degree in fire science or criminal justice, five years of related experience, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in fire science or criminal justice or related field.
• Five years of experience conducting fire inspections and fire investigations OR five years as a law enforcement officer, including criminal investigations, evidence collection, courtroom testimony, interviews.

Responsibilities

• Investigates origin and cause of fires, explosions, and carbon monoxide releases; prepares detailed reports.
• Acts as lead investigator with field supervision over subordinates to ensure compliance with policies.
• Assists other agencies with investigations involving fire or criminal codes.
• Uses knowledge of rules and laws to direct division staff in investigations.
• Interacts with public, media, officials, and businesses for public information and guidance.
• Provides expert witness testimony in court and civil proceedings.
