Job summary

The Missouri Division of Fire Safety, Office of the State Fire Marshal, seeks an Investigator to join its team of fire and explosion investigators. You will determine the origin and cause of fires, assist local agencies, and work at the intersection of law enforcement and fire service.

Applicants must be POST-licensed, with 3+ years in fire or criminal investigation, and either a high school diploma or a equivalency certificate.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited four-year high school; certificate of equivalency if not.
• P.O.S.T licensed.
• Certified as a Fire Investigator or complete certification within six months.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in fire prevention/investigation or criminal investigation.
• Specialized arson detection and investigation training.
• Citizen of the United States; resident of Missouri at time of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Determine origin and cause of fires, explosions, and related crimes.
• May make criminal arrests in the course of a fire investigation.
• Evaluate and present evidence during prosecution; testify in criminal and civil court cases.
