The Office of the State Fire Marshal invites applications for the Arson Investigator I – Special Agent position at our Springfield headquarters. You will conduct fires investigations to determine cause and origin, inspect scene details, and collect evidence.

This role requires solid communication with the public and allied agencies. Minimum qualifications include a four-year college degree related to fire science, law, or criminology and either Arson Investigator Trainee training or a full law

Qualifications

• Four-year college degree in fire science, law, criminology, or related field.
• Arson Investigator Trainee training or full law enforcement academy required.
• Prefers 3+ years of professional investigative experience and related certifications.

Responsibilities

• Conduct fires investigations to determine cause and origin.
• Inspect interiors for signs of forcible entry.
• Investigate means of access and document scene with photos and videos.
• Prepare reports and maintain evidence; coordinate with agencies.
• Travel as required and maintain fitness and ongoing training.
