Job summary

Anchorage Fire Department is seeking a Fire Apparatus Engineer on a 56-hour schedule (A, B, or C shift) stationed at various fire stations in Anchorage. The role focuses on the safe transport of fire crews and operation of pumps, aerial ladders, and auxiliary equipment during emergencies and non-emergencies.

Qualified applicants will have five years of firefighter experience, Alaska driver’s license, and four required certifications (FII, Journeyman FF, Apparatus Engineer, EMT I or MICP).

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
• Five (5) years of firefighter experience with the Anchorage Fire Department, or equivalent elsewhere.
• Must possess a valid State of Alaska driver's license with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
• Must possess and attach to the application the following four certifications: Alaska Firefighter II, Anchorage Fire Department Journeyman Firefighter, 2024 or 2026 Anchorage Fire Department Fire Apparatus Engineer, and State of Alaska EMT I (or higher) or MICP license.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the safe transportation of fire crews to and from emergency and non-emergency incidents via various types of fire apparatus.
• Operate fire apparatus including pumps, aerial ladders, and auxiliary equipment during emergency and non-emergency incidents.
• Perform general maintenance and minor repairs on apparatus and equipment; prepare reports as assigned.
• Assist crew in assessing and treating medical patients and initiate pump pressure calculations as required.
