Job summary

City & Borough of Sitka Alaska is seeking an EMS/Fire Captain to operate and maintain emergency response apparatus, and perform firefighting, EMS, search and rescue, dive rescue when responding to calls.

Under the Senior Fire Engineer, the Captain oversees EMS, trains personnel, conducts inspections, and maintains readiness and safety of equipment and facilities in accordance with fire codes and department policies.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED, preferred college credits in related fire or emergency services
• Firefighter I certification from IFSA/Proboard, advanced certification preferred
• EMT I, EMT II, or EMT III license from the State of Alaska
• ICS 100 and ICS 700 from FEMA

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain emergency ground apparatus and vehicles
• Provide firefighting and emergency medical services
• Participate in pre-incident planning and rescue operations
• Perform routine apparatus inspection and maintenance
• Ensure compliance with safety, fire codes, and department policies
