Job summary

Blue Signal Search is assisting a growing contractor with a Senior Financial Controller role on-site in Phoenix, AZ or Salt Lake City, UT. The position oversees accounting across locations, leads close processes, and provides management reports to drive business decisions.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in construction or project accounting, strong US GAAP knowledge, and proven team leadership. Travel to regional sites is expected as needed, with a competitive benefits package and bonus

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in construction or project-based business.
• Experience leading or supervising accounting professionals.
• Strong understanding of job cost accounting and WIP reporting within a project-based environment.
• Knowledge of US GAAP and revenue recognition (percentage-of-completion).
• Experience with ERP platforms; NetSuite is a plus.
• Ability to collaborate with finance, operations, and senior leadership.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounting activities and financial reporting across multiple operating locations, ensuring deadlines and reporting expectations are met.
• Guide monthly and annual closing activities while maintaining dependable financial records and supporting schedules.
• Deliver financial statements, operating forecasts, budgets, and management reporting for leadership.
• Evaluate project costs, WIP activity, margins, and variances to identify trends and issues.
• Maintain accounting treatment for project-based revenue per US GAAP.
• Collaborate with operational leaders to link financial results with project execution and profitability.
• Establish consistent accounting procedures and controls for a growing, multi-location organization.
• Lead, mentor, and support accounting professionals while promoting accountability.
• Coordinate financial documents for annual audits and compliance activities.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and system usefulness.

As the business continues to expand across multiple locations, they are looking for an experienced financial leader to strengthen accounting operations, improve visibility into business performance, and serve as a trusted partner to operational leadership.

The Senior Financial Controller will have significant ownership over the financial performance and accounting activities of a multi-location operation. This is an excellent opportunity for a construction accounting professional who enjoys combining technical accounting expertise with team leadership and hands‑on business partnership. Skill Set:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• 5 or more years of progressive accounting experience, including substantial exposure to construction, contracting, or another project‑oriented business.
• Previous experience leading or supervising accounting professionals.
• Strong understanding of job cost accounting and work‑in‑progress reporting within a project‑based environment.
• Knowledge of percentage‑of‑completion revenue accounting and US GAAP.
• Ability to analyze project financial performance, investigate variances, and communicate findings to business leaders.
• Experience working with ERP accounting platforms. NetSuite experience is valuable but not required.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with finance, operations, and senior leadership.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities across multiple business units.
• Hands‑on leadership approach and willingness to remain involved in both detailed accounting matters and higher‑level financial decisions.
• Ability to travel periodically to support regional business operations.
