Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a financial analyst to provide complex, in-depth budget analysis and reporting to support the district's budgeting and policy development.

The role involves analyzing revenues and expenditures, coordinating with programs, and preparing reports for management and the Board; it requires strong forecasting, data analysis, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly. This is a 1.0 FTE, 12-month position starting as soon as possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, finance, or accounting; Master’s degree preferred.
• Four years of progressively responsible experience in budget/financial analysis or policy impact analysis; school district/governmental experience preferred.
• Strong analytical and financial forecasting and planning skills; proficient with spreadsheets and reporting systems.
• Knowledge of state budgeting requirements and district accounting practices is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Calculates and analyzes revenue, expenditures, and budget trends using the district’s financial system; coordinates with programs for forecasts.
• Acts as liaison to major programs; analyzes funding changes and recommends costed options for management.
• Documents assumptions, develops explanations for variances, and prepares monthly/quarterly financial reports and forecasts.
• Prepares cost/revenue analyses for labor negotiations, legislative proposals, and other issues impacting finances.
