Job summary

McClure Engineering in St. Louis, Missouri, seeks a Controller to lead the Finance function and ensure accurate, scalable financial operations. You will partner with the COO and executive team to drive budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and strategic planning, while overseeing accounting, reporting, and controls.

This senior role emphasizes leadership, process improvement, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to support growth initiatives and operational excellence across the firm.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Experience leading accounting operations and financial reporting.
• Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and internal controls.
• Demonstrated leadership experience with direct reports and team development.
• Advanced Excel and financial systems expertise.
• CPA designation (preferred).
• Experience in professional services, engineering, architecture, consulting, or project-based organizations (preferred).
• Experience working directly with executive leadership teams (preferred).
• Experience driving process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Partner with the COO and leadership to provide financial insight.
• Translate financial data into actionable recommendations.
• Develop financial models to support investments, hiring decisions, profitability, and improvements.
• Identify financial risks and opportunities and advise actions.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting activities.
• Prepare and review financial statements and management reports.
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes.
• Coordinate audits and tax engagements.
• Provide reporting on performance, cash flow, backlog, and profitability.
• Lead annual budgeting and forecasting.
• Monitor cash position and treasury activities.
• Establish internal controls and ensure compliance.
• Develop scalable processes and team development.
