Senior Finance Controller for MEP Projects

Job summary

Morris Heating & Cooling is seeking a hands-on Controller / Head of Finance to own accounting and reporting end-to-end for a growing MEP contractor. You will manage POC revenue, WIP, ETC, and the monthly close, while driving integration between BuildOps and QuickBooks Online to keep operations and finances aligned.

Lead billing, collections, payroll, AP, and financial reporting, and partner with leadership to optimize cash flow and margins across projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA and/or CMA a plus.
• 7+ years of accounting/finance experience including direct MEP experience.
• Hands-on command of POC/job-cost accounting, WIP, cash forecasting, billing and collections, AP, payroll, and month-end close.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain ETC / cost-to-complete for projects.
• Experience improving financial processes, controls, and cash management in a lean or growing environment.
• Experience owning a full monthly close and preparing journal entries in QuickBooks Online.
• Experience with BuildOps (or a comparable ERP) and integrating it with an accounting system.
• Strong Excel skills for reporting.

Responsibilities

• Percent-of-Completion & WIP: own POC revenue, maintain WIP schedules, manage over-/under-billings, backlog reporting.
• ETC: partner with PMs to develop/update ETC and ETC-to-completion figures for each project.
• Monthly Close: own the full close with reconciliations, accruals, and consolidated schedules.
• Journal Entries in QuickBooks Online: post entries and maintain a clean GL.
• BuildOps Integration: manage integration with QBO and ensure data flow across systems.
• Job Costing & Margin Analysis: maintain job-costing, analyze margins, and provide profitability visibility.
• Cash, Billing & Collections: forecast cash, manage progress billings and collections.
• Accounts Payable & Payroll: manage AP and coordinate payroll.
• Financial Reporting: prepare monthly reporting packages for leadership.
• Controls & Compliance: establish internal controls and coordinate with CPAs and insurers.
• Systems & Process: document and improve accounting processes for scalability.
