Job summary

Morris Heating & Cooling is seeking a hands-on Controller / Head of Finance to own the accounting and financial reporting end to end. This senior leader will manage POC, WIP, ETC, and job costing for HVAC, electrical, and refrigeration projects across Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.

The role requires direct MEP experience, a strong command of BuildOps with QuickBooks Online, and the ability to bridge financial data with operations. A CPA/CMA is a plus, with strong leadership and systems fluency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• CPA and/or CMA a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own percent-of-completion (POC) revenue recognition across active projects and maintain accurate work-in-progress (WIP) schedules.
• Partner with project managers and operations to develop, review, and update ETC and estimate-at-completion figures for each project; ensure cost-to-complete is current and defensible.
• Personally own and execute the full monthly close process with reconciliations, accruals, and consolidated schedules for timely financial statements.
• Prepare and post journal entries in QuickBooks Online with well-documented ledgers and supporting workpapers.
• Manage integration between BuildOps and QuickBooks Online; troubleshoot sync issues and ensure data flows to support accurate reporting.
• Maintain job costing across labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment; analyze margins and surface issues for leadership.
• Own cash forecasting, billing, collections, and working-capital optimization in a project-based environment.
• Prepare monthly financial reporting packages for leadership and oversee internal controls and coordination with outside CPAs.
