Job summary

Lumen is seeking a Field Technician III to join our network operations, performing installation, testing, and maintenance of transport, Ethernet, SONET and IP services, including CPE and CSU/DSU equipment. The role requires proficiency across a wide range of telecom technologies and field responsibilities in the Oregon area.

Candidates typically have 5+ years in telecom/data center environments, with deep knowledge of transmission, signaling, and TCP/IP.

Qualifications

• 5+ years Technician experience in telecommunications/data center environments.
• Master knowledge of standard telecommunication practices including transmission, switching, and TCP/IP.
• Strong technical and mechanical background with transport gear and critical infrastructure knowledge.
• Willingness to outdoor work and adherence to safety policies.
• On-call 24x7 rotational work required.
• Ability to perform complex assignments with initiative and judgement.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots network equipment, replaces defective components, and isolates/restore network. Identifies potential problem areas and test fiber quality as needed.
• Installs/changes/decommissions and tests transport, Ethernet, SONET and IP network layers across bandwidths; installs customer equipment.
• Uses standard software/hardware to locate and protect underground facilities and coordinates with team.
• Performs level 1 preventive maintenance on network and critical infrastructure, including HVAC and DC power plants.
• Maintains tools, test sets, and materials; oversees asset management and outside plant logistics.
• Ensures safety and compliance; performs tasks in varied outdoor environments.
