Job summary

TRC, Member of WSP, is hiring a Land Survey Crew Chief in Richmond, VA. The role focuses on conducting surveys outdoors, leading field crews, and delivering precise field notes and sketches in line with company standards.

Applicants should have 7–10 years of Crew Leader/Party Chief experience, a surveying license or LSIT, and proficiency with robotic total stations and Trimble software. Strong client relations and safety-minded performance are essential.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience leading field survey crews.
• Knowledge of GPS, total stations and data collection.
• Ability to read plans and understand civil engineering concepts.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the operation and maintenance of survey equipment used on job site and assist with training others when practical.
• Prepare field sketches/drawings and high-quality field notes, including level notes, for each project in accordance with company and general survey standards.
• Assemble all instruments and measuring devices needed to complete various types of survey work assignments. Accurately run and adjust survey-measuring instruments including level, transit, theodolite, electronic measuring devices and total stations with electronic data collecting capabilities.
• Ensures that the proper equipment is loaded, and batteries charged for the next assignment.
• Performs mathematical calculations.
• Ability to read and understanding plans and specifications.
• Understanding of basic sources of measurement errors.
• Knowledgeable of principals of construction staking and stake markings.
• Adhere to company safety policies along with use of supplied personal protective equipment, (PPE).
• Provide positive client/public relations in the field.
• Accountable for completing assigned tasks.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
