Job summary

TRC Companies is seeking a Survey Party Chief for our Houston, TX operations. You will manage a survey crew of 1-5, instructing and evaluating field staff, and performing boundary, topographic, ALTA, GPS, hydrographic and control surveys in fast-paced commercial projects.

This role requires spending ~90% of time in the field and coordinating with project plans. The position emphasizes equipment readiness, precise field notes, safety, plan reading, and delivering accurate survey data for complex

Qualifications

• Construction staking and data collection systems experience required.
• Ability to perform basic GPS operations.
• Proficient with Robotic Total Station.
• Be familiar with basic computer applications.
• Interpersonal and communication skills; positive client/public relations in the field.
• Minimum 7-10 years of experience as a Crew Leader/Party Chief.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of survey technology and basic civil engineering concepts.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the operation and maintenance of survey equipment used on job site and assist with training others when practical.
• Prepare field sketches/drawings and high-quality field notes, including level notes, for each project in accordance with company and general survey standards.
• Assemble all instruments and measuring devices needed to complete various types of survey work assignments. Accurately run and adjust survey-measuring instruments including level, transit, theodolite, electronic measuring devices and total stations with electronic data collecting capabilities.
• Ensures that the proper equipment is loaded, and batteries charged for the next assignment.
• Performs mathematical calculations.
• Ability to read and understanding plans and specifications.
• Understanding of basic sources of measurement errors.
• Knowledgeable of principals of construction staking and stake markings.
• Adhere to company safety policies along with use of supplied personal protective equipment, (PPE).
• Provide positive client/public relations in the field.
• Accountable for completing assigned tasks.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
