Job summary

RMS Energy is seeking a Lead Field Service Technician to support electrical system projects across the United States. You will lead field crews, execute testing and commissioning plans, mentor technicians, and ensure quality and safety in the field.

You will diagnose, test, and commission high and low voltage systems, travel at least 75%, and work in power plants, substations, and industrial facilities. A strong safety record and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in power plant, utility, or industrial power systems.
• NETA Level III or IV preferred; journeyman or equivalent accepted.
• Expert in protection & control systems and high-voltage commissioning.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and PowerDB for documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead testing and maintenance on LV to HV systems (480V–600kV), including breakers, relays, cables, motor controls, and transformers.
• Run advanced diagnostics using Power Factor, Tan Delta, VLF, DC Hi-Pot, Doble, TTR, winding and insulation tests.
• Perform and validate electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor relay testing.
• Oversee test plan execution and commissioning procedures for new systems and upgrades.
• Supervise onsite field crews, mentor technicians, and uphold safety standards.
• Ensure compliance with project specs, Lockout/Tagout, PPE, and JHA requirements.
• Maintain accurate test reports, service records, and commissioning documentation.
• Serve as lead field contact for clients and coordinate project requirements.
• Oversee care and readiness of test gear, vehicles, and tools.
• Direct emergency response, shutdowns, and start-ups with minimal supervision.
• Coach and support junior team members through on-the-job mentorship.
