Job summary

Forgent Power is seeking a Level 5 Switchgear Field Engineer to lead complex field service activities for MV/HV switchgear systems. You will install, commission, maintain, troubleshoot, and modernize equipment on-site, interfacing with customers and project teams.

You will mentor junior engineers, drive safety compliance (LOTO, arc-flash), and deliver high-quality field reports, test records, and commissioning checklists. Willingness to travel is required.

Qualifications

• Requires a degree in engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Typically 8+ years of progressive field experience with MV/HV switchgear, breakers, and protection & control systems.
• Ability to lead field crews and manage on-site execution for complex commissioning/service events.

Responsibilities

• Lead field execution for switchgear installation, commissioning, and service.
• Plan and perform advanced diagnostics for equipment and protection/control issues.
• Execute and/or direct acceptance, maintenance, and testing per defined procedures.
• Perform protection relay commissioning and end-to-end verification.
• Interpret and redline electrical drawings and verify as-built conditions.
• Ensure safety requirements (LOTO, arc-flash) and lead on-site safety briefings.
• Troubleshoot control wiring, interlocks, and communication issues.
• Direct corrective maintenance including breaker overhaul support and component replacement.
• Provide technical leadership during outages and critical recovery events.
• Produce field service reports, test records, and nonconformance documentation.
• Coordinate with PMs, engineering, factory, and supply chain on parts and escalations.
• Mentor and supervise junior engineers/technicians and support training.
