Job summary

pro-beam, a global leader in advanced manufacturing equipment, is seeking a Senior Field Service Engineer for our Lombard, IL operation. The role focuses on installing, commissioning, and servicing sophisticated industrial machinery at customer sites across North America, with substantial travel.

You will diagnose electrical, mechanical, and control‑system faults, perform hands‑on repairs, and support new installations while collaborating with engineering teams in Germany.

Qualifications

• Several years of hands‑on field service experience with complex industrial machinery or capital equipment.
• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
• Experience installing, commissioning, servicing, or repairing industrial equipment.
• Ability to independently diagnose machine failures and perform hands‑on corrective work.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with PLC‑controlled machinery, industrial drives, motors, sensors, and machine safety systems.

Responsibilities

• Install, commission, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain complex industrial machinery at customer locations.
• Independently diagnose electrical, mechanical, and control‑related machine failures and identify effective corrective actions.
• Troubleshoot components such as motors, drives, sensors, electrical circuits, safety systems, machine controls, and industrial communication networks.
• Perform hands‑on mechanical repairs, component replacements, adjustments, and equipment testing.
• Support new machine installations, start‑up procedures, functional testing, and customer acceptance.
• Conduct preventive maintenance, equipment upgrades, and technical service interventions.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with engineering and service specialists in Germany on complex technical issues.
• Provide technical support and training to customers and other service personnel.
• Document service findings, repairs, and technical recommendations.
• Support service and equipment activities at the Lombard facility as needed.
• Participate in technical training in Germany to develop expertise in electron beam, vacuum, and high‑voltage technology.
