Job summary

Gunnison Copper Corp. is seeking a Senior Safety Specialist for the Johnson Camp Mine near Dragoon, Arizona. The role is site-based, full-time, and reports to the Director of Health, Safety and Security.

You will work hands-on with crews, contractors, and supervisors to identify hazards and implement effective safety controls in mining, processing, and maintenance areas. You will lead safety investigations, drive safe-work planning, and reinforce a culture of stop-work authority while supporting

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, Mining Engineering, or related technical discipline; an equivalent combination may be considered.
• At least five years of progressively responsible safety experience in mining, mineral processing, heavy industry, construction, or similar hazardous environments.
• Experience providing direct field support to employees, supervisors and contractors.
• Working knowledge of MSHA requirements and practical application in surface mining and processing operations.
• Experience with inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations, training, and corrective-action management.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a strong field presence engaging with operating crews, observing work, discussing hazards, and helping resolve safety concerns.
• Strengthen critical-risk controls around mobile equipment, hazardous energy, electrical systems, confined spaces, fall protection, lifting, excavation, and chemicals.
• Support safe work planning through pre-shift meetings, job hazard analyses, field-level risk assessments, and planning for nonroutine work.
• Conduct inspections, identify deficiencies, recommend practical controls, and track corrective actions to completion.
• Reinforce stop-work authority and intervene when conditions present unacceptable risk.
• Investigate incidents and near-misses, identify root causes, and share lessons learned.
