Job summary

Gunnison Copper is seeking an experienced Director of Health, Safety and Security to lead occupational health, safety, emergency preparedness, and physical security at Johnson Camp Mine and related Gunnison Project activities in southeastern Arizona.

Reporting to the COO, you will blend strategic leadership with a strong field presence, guiding safety professionals, crews, and contractors to identify hazards, verify controls, and build capability for safe copper production across open-pit

Qualifications

• 10+ years in mining safety leadership with progressive responsibility.
• Five years leading safety professionals or a department.
• Direct MSHA-regulated operating environment experience.
• Strong knowledge of risk management, incident investigation, safety training systems.
• Experience evaluating physical security risks and managing security providers.

Responsibilities

• Lead field safety leadership and critical-risk management with crews and contractors.
• Set safety priorities, plans, budgets, and performance expectations.
• Coach safety professionals and supervisors in risk assessment and incident response.
• Oversee MSHA compliance, inspection readiness, and training systems.
• Direct occupational health programs addressing dust, noise, heat, chemicals.
• Lead or sponsor incident investigations and verify corrective actions.
• Strengthen emergency plans, drills, and external coordination.
• Oversee contracted security coverage and access controls.
• Integrate safety expectations into construction, commissioning, and maintenance.
• Provide executive-level assessments of risks and improvement priorities.
