Job summary

Gunnison Copper is seeking a strategic Director of Health, Safety and Security to lead occupational health, safety, emergency preparedness, and physical security at Johnson Camp Mine and related projects near Dragoon, Arizona. The role reports to the COO and requires field presence, collaboration with leaders, employees, and contractors to enforce rigorous safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, Mining Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible health and safety experience in mining or related heavy industry.
• At least 5 years leading safety professionals, programs, or a department.
• Direct MSHA-regulated operating environment experience is required.
• Strong knowledge of risk management, incident investigation, contractor safety, and training systems.
• Experience overseeing security services and evaluating security risks.

Responsibilities

• Lead field safety leadership and risk management for high-consequence activities.
• Set safety strategy, annual plans, budgets, and performance expectations.
• Coach safety professionals and supervising teams in risk assessment and incident response.
• Ensure MSHA compliance, inspections readiness, training systems, and records.
• Direct health risk assessments and controls for dust, noise, heat, chemicals, and other hazards.
• Lead or sponsor investigations and verify corrective actions reduce risk.
• Strengthen emergency plans, drills, and coordination with external responders.
• Oversee contracted security coverage and access controls at the site.
• Integrate safety expectations into construction, commissioning, and operations.
• Provide executive-level risk assessments and prioritize improvements.
