Job summary

Gunnison Copper seeks a Director of Health, Safety and Security to lead occupational safety and security across Johnson Camp Mine and related activities in southeastern Arizona. The role reports to the COO and prioritizes visible field leadership, risk control, and continuous improvement.

You will guide safety professionals, drive regulatory compliance, and coordinate with contractors and operations teams to uphold Life-Saving Rules and strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in a safety-focused technical field or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years in health and safety leadership in mining or heavy industry.
• 5+ years leading safety professionals and programs.
• Direct MSHA-regulated operating environment experience.
• Strong knowledge of risk management, incident investigation, contractor safety and training systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead field safety with hazard recognition and critical-risk controls.
• Set safety strategy, priorities, budgets, and performance expectations.
• Coach safety staff and improve work planning and risk assessment.
• Ensure MSHA compliance, inspections, and training maturity.
• Direct health risk assessments for dust, noise, heat, and chemicals.
• Lead investigations and verify corrective actions to reduce risk.
• Strengthen emergency response plans and external coordination.
• Oversee contracted security services and access controls.
• Integrate safety into construction, commissioning, and changes.
• Advise leadership on material risks and improvement priorities.
