Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group in Traverse City, MI is seeking a Senior Field Property Adjuster to manage moderate to complex field property claims with travel.

You will lead investigations, assess coverage, set reserves, coordinate with internal teams, and mentor junior adjusters. This remote, full-time role requires strong negotiation, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent claim handling experience.
• Typically requires 5–10 years of adjusting experience.
• Must have and maintain appropriate state adjuster licenses, continuing education credits, and a valid driver’s license.
• Strong Xactimate proficiency, preferably Level II Certified.
• Strong knowledge of local geography, regulations, and public safety agencies.
• Skilled in negotiation and developing strategies to influence outcomes.
• Able to use claims systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to travel and work on-site as needed.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage field property claims, including CATs, with clear communication and empathetic handling.
• Lead investigations, assess coverage, and issue documentation including reservation of rights and letters.
• Identify subrogation potential and coordinate recovery efforts.
• Maintain thorough claim records and prepare detailed reports.
• Coordinate with legal, underwriting, vendors, and agents; may represent the company in mediations/arbitrations/trials.
• Mentor junior adjusters and contribute to best practices and training.
