Job summary

Overwatch Mission Critical is seeking a Senior Field Mechanical Engineer to serve as the Owner’s Representative for the mechanical scope of a large-scale hyperscale data center project. This field-based role requires leadership across design coordination, construction, startup, commissioning, and turnover.

You will mentor junior engineers, ensure installations meet owner requirements for reliability and operability, and coordinate with design teams, general contractors, and facility operations

Qualifications

• 3-7+ years of field mechanical engineering experience.
• Experience supporting large-scale data center, or mission-critical construction.
• Strong knowledge of chilled-water plants, HVAC systems, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps, piping, cooling towers, ventilation systems, TAB, and building controls.
• Experience reviewing mechanical drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, equipment selections, and field changes.
• Experience coordinating with engineers of record, design consultants, general contractors, trade partners, commissioning agents, and facility operations teams.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership.
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, startup, commissioning, integrated testing, and system turnover.
• Ability to translate complex technical issues into clear recommendations for technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
• Strong written communication, documentation, and issue-management skills.
• Ability to work full-time onsite in an active construction environment.

Responsibilities

• Represent the owner on mechanical engineering and construction matters.
• Provide field oversight of HVAC and cooling infrastructure (chilled-water plants, CRAH/CRAC units, air-handling systems, towers, pumps, piping, controls).
• Review drawings, submittals, RFIs, and changes for compliance with owner requirements.
• Conduct field walks to assess installation quality, constructability, progress, and safety.
• Identify design conflicts, installation deficiencies, and risks before schedule impact.
• Review RFIs, submittals, field changes, NCRs, and design clarifications.
• Coordinate commissioning activities, testing, and turnover documentation.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead technical discussions across stakeholders.
