XPS is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the planning, coordination, and execution of large-scale hyperscale data center development programs. This role will sit onsite and act as a technical owner's representative, supporting the delivery of mission‑critical projects from design through construction.

The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with internal development and design leadership, external consultants, contractors, and general contractors to ensure the successful execution of complex mechanical systems across multiple active construction sites. This individual will play a key role in activities, and ensuring engineering intent is maintained throughout project delivery.

Scope of Role

  • Coordinate mechanical design progression and construction administration activities across 1-2 active hyperscale data center sites within a metro region.
  • Support onsite execution of large-scale mission‑critical construction programs as the owner's technical representative.
  • Work closely with general contractors, trade partners, consultants, and internal development teams to resolve technical design and construction challenges.
  • Manage and track RFIs, submittals, design clarifications, and field coordination items relating to mechanical systems.
  • Support implementation and coordination of HVAC systems, HVAC controls, plumbing systems, and civil wet utility infrastructure.
  • Assist with ensuring mechanical systems are installed in accordance with design intent, project specifications, and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to support schedule alignment and project execution milestones.
  • Participate in site walks, progress meetings, commissioning coordination, and issue resolution activities.
  • Support communication between external design consultants and construction teams to maintain project continuity throughout delivery.
  • Contribute to project reporting, documentation management, and technical coordination activities across the development lifecycle.

Core Skills

  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering systems within mission‑critical or large‑scale infrastructure environments.
  • Experience supporting construction administration, field coordination, or onsite project delivery activities.
  • Ability to coordinate between consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholder groups in fast‑paced construction environments.
  • Familiarity with hyperscale data center mechanical infrastructure including HVAC, cooling systems, controls, and plumbing systems.
  • Ability to review technical drawings, specifications, submittals, and RFIs with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work collaboratively across project teams.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple active construction projects simultaneously.
  • Strategic problem‑solving mindset with the ability to resolve technical and coordination challenges onsite.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience within mechanical engineering, consulting engineering, construction administration, or mission‑critical project delivery environments.
  • Background in mechanical design engineering, field engineering, owner's representation, or construction support services.
  • Experience supporting large‑scale infrastructure, industrial, healthcare, semiconductor, laboratory, or mission‑critical projects is highly preferred.
  • Data center experience is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with complex mechanical systems and construction sequencing within highly technical environments.
  • Ability to work onsite full‑time within active construction environments.
  • Strong understanding of project coordination processes during design and construction phases.
  • Experience working alongside general contractors and multidisciplinary consultant teams is preferred.
