Job summary

Miami-County-Kansas is seeking a Mechanic II to maintain and repair the Road & Bridge fleet and other county vehicles. You will perform diagnostics and high‑level repairs, conduct service calls, and ensure equipment is safe to operate and ready for crews.

The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent with 1–3 years of mechanical experience, a valid driver’s license, and CDL credentials (Class B required; Class A preferred).

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and 1–3 years mechanical experience.
• Valid driver’s license; Class B CDL required with Class A CDL preferred.
• Knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance and safety practices.
• Ability to read manuals, diagnose and repair machinery using diagnostic tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform high level maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on equipment, trucks and vehicles.
• Handle service calls including tire repairs, fuel delivery and minor field repairs.
• Turn in maintenance and service tickets, sign for parts and daily paperwork.
• Maintain shop cleanliness and ensure safety equipment is in good working order.
• Ensure equipment for seasonal tasks is ready for crews; support snow/ice operations.
• Check fire extinguishers and safety compliance; operate diagnostic equipment.
• Maintain and use a variety of hand and power tools for repair work.
