Job summary

The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County is seeking a skilled heavy equipment mechanic to maintain and repair automotive and heavy equipment, including diesel engines and transmissions. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, three years of related experience, and the ability to perform diverse mechanical tasks outdoors in extreme heat and hazardous environments.

Valid Florida driver’s license (Class E) is required; CDL B within one year. Tools of trade required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three years related experience and/or training as a tractor/trailer, automotive or heavy equipment mechanic.
• Professional training or technical certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair heavy equipment including tractors, bulldozers, cranes.
• Repair engines, brakes, transmissions, suspensions, hydraulics, electrical and A/C systems.
• Inspect and perform diagnostic checks and replace parts as needed.
• Operate automotive and heavy equipment as required.
• Weld and cut metals to repair equipment.
• Perform tire service and repair on equipment.
• Follow safety guidelines and procedures.
