Job summary

Unified Government is seeking a skilled Fleet Maintenance Technician II for the Public Works Fleet Division. The role focuses on diagnosing and repairing gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, suspensions, and hydraulic systems to keep the fleet safe and ready for service.

The ideal candidate has a hands-on approach with repair experience and must obtain a CDL Class B license with airbrake endorsement within six months, plus a Kansas driver’s license. ASE certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in repair and maintenance or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• ASE certification preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and major repairs on gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Perform tire inspections, repairs and replacements on vehicles and equipment.
• Provide emergency road service, towing, and on-site repairs when required.
• Operate equipment during emergencies within Wyandotte County.
• Maintain and service fleet-related equipment such as car wash systems and fuel pumps.
