Job summary

MasTec Utility Services is seeking a Mechanic III to maintain and repair heavy equipment and vehicles across our utility projects. You will support multiple departments, handling diagnostics, tune-ups, engine work, and basic welding in a field environment.

The role requires owning tools, a valid driver’s license, and CDL A/B or ability to obtain within 90 days, with at least 5 years of repair experience. Schedule is Mon–Fri, 7am–5:30pm, with exposure to inclement weather and physical work.

Qualifications

• Must have own tools (1/4'' up to 2'')
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver's license
• CDL class A/B or ability to receive within 90 days
• 5 years of experience in vehicle/equipment repairs
• Knowledge of safety guidelines and procedures
• Ability to perform tune-ups, engine work, hydraulic work, cylinder replacing, and basic engine repair
• Knowledge of diesel and drive train
• Ability to use cutting torch and basic welding skills
• Ability to work in inclement weather
• Must be able to work schedule Mon–Fri; 7am–5:30pm

Responsibilities

• Inspect and repair company/utility equipment such as trucks, line trucks, trailers, excavators, backhoes, generators in a safe, timely, cost-effective manner
• Troubleshoot diesel and gas engines
• Road tests and operational checks of vehicles and equipment to ensure quality of repairs
• Place orders for required parts, materials and supplies
• Prepare and maintain records and reports
• Monitor prioritized projects to ensure deadlines are met
• Maintain tools, supplies and workstations in a clean, safe condition
• Perform other duties as required and/or assigned
